The Melnick State of the Economy Index Increased by 0.9% in March 2010

The rapid growth of the business sector continues.
Prominent increases in the Index of Industrial Production, imports of inputs, and employee posts in the business sector.

The Melnick State of the Economy Index rose by 0.9 percent in March 2010. The rapid growth of the business sector continues. Recovery of industrial production sector continues, reflecting an increase in world trade and exports. The rise in the Imports Index is evident, mainly reflecting the rise in import of inputs for domestic production. The rise in the number of employee posts is also prominent, reflecting a recovery in the business sector demand for labor.

The components of the March Index include: an increase of 0.9% in the Industrial Production Index in February, after an increase of 2.3% in January; a decrease of 1.4% in the Index of Revenue in Commerce and Services in February, after an increase of 3.0% in January; an increase of 5.0% in the Imports Index in March, after an increase of 2.2% in February, and an increase of 1.0% in the number of employee posts in the business sector in January, after an increase of 0.1% in December.
