The Melnick State of the Economy Index increased by 0.4% in April 2011

The growth of the economy continues.
The raise in industrial production continues, reflecting mainly on demands for exports from abroad.

The Melnick State of the Economy Index  increased by 0.4% in April 2011. After the rapid growth of the economy in the first quarter of 2011, it seems that the economy continues to grow in the second quarter, albeit at a slower rate than the first quarter. Growth of the Industrial Production Index continues, reflecting on the expansion of the supply of the business sector product – which mainly accomodates industrial exports - the main exports of goods in the economy. In addition, a high level of Revenues in Commerce and Services Iindex is maintained, reflecting on a high level of domestic demand and especially of private consumption. Aditionlly, the number of employee posts in the business sector continues to rise,  reflecting on a continueing improvement in the labor market.
                     

The components of the April Index include: an increase of 0.2% in the Industrial Production Index in March, after an increase of 1.7% in February; No change in the Index of Revenue in Commerce and Services in March, after an increase of 0.6% in February; No change in the Imports Index in April, after an increase of 1.5% in March, and an increase of 0.1% in the number of employee posts in the business sector in February, after a stability in January.
