The Melnick State of the Economy Index increased by 0.4 percent in September 2009. The signs of a positive turn in economic activity are strengthening. Now it is safe to say that the decline in economic activity has stopped. The components of the index display wide volatility from month to month, with varying increases and decreases in consecutive months yet, the overall trend is positive. It seems that the domestic conditions, created in the business sector, enable economic growth. However, the strength of the growth will depend on the recovery of the world's markets that will determine the strength of exports – and thus restore exports as a leading contributor to growth.

The components of September Index include an increase of 2.3% in the Industrial Production Index in August, after a decrease of 2.4% in July; an increase of 1.9% in the Revenue in Commerce and Services in August, after a decrease of 3.0% in July; an increase of 5.7% in the Imports Index in September, after a decrease of 0.3% in August; and a decrease of 0.7% in the Employee Posts in the Business Sector in July, after no change in June.
